Hyderabad: For the first time in the South Central Railway (SCR), loading of parcels onto New Modified Goods (NMG) wagons has commenced, with rubber tyres being loaded from the Sadashivapet road station of the Secunderabad division.
On Friday, 230 tonnes of tyres have been loaded onto 25 NMG wagons bound to the Mirzapur Bacchaud station in Haryana. Generally, NMG wagons are widely used for transporting automobiles. However, parcel traffic has been steadily increasing for some time and so has been the demand for parcel vans.
To overcome this, the Railway Board instructed the authorities to utilise NMG wagons for transporting parcels to meet the demand, provided that the loading is done in the entire rake i.e., 25 wagons and also to the extent of carrying capacity of the wagons. The charges will be applicable as per the rules of parcel trains.
Accordingly, the Secunderabad division has been successful in materialising this relaxation given to parcel traffic.
