Hyderabad: In a major move aimed at fast-tracking further development of suburban Hyderabad, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday decided to constitute a nodal agency headed by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to ensure comprehensive and integrated development of the urban peripherals of the city that fall under Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.

The Chief Minister took a decision to this effect and directed the officials to initiate necessary measures to cater to the future needs of these peripheral areas. He directed Somesh Kumar to convene a meeting with all the elected representatives and officials of these districts for necessary action.

Chandrashekhar Rao held a high-level meeting at Pragathi Bhavan to address the issues arising out of increasing urbanisation on the outskirts of Hyderabad and implement a unified approach for integrated development of infrastructure. He asked the officials to come up with a comprehensive action plan to address issues through various measures like construction of integrated markets in every Assembly constituency, municipality and other important towns within these districts, construction of town halls, development of infrastructure such as roads, electricity, drinking water, sanitation, sewerage drainage, repair of canals, flood water, flooding, and traffic, among others.

“Hyderabad is progressing as a cosmopolitan city. Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts, which are part of the city, too are also developing rapidly. Plans should be chalked out for the development of all the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) within these districts to cater to the future needs. A comprehensive approach needs to be formulated to sustain the integrated development along with Hyderabad city,” Chandrashekhar Rao said.

He wanted people living in these districts to have better access to facilities like education and health facilities on the lines of Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister advised the MLAs to prepare an Assembly constituency-wise action plan project to address local issues, in collaboration with officials and develop infrastructure. Both the elected representatives and the officials were directed to meet regularly and address the local issues in a time-bound manner. “The programme should be reviewed by the Nodal Officer (the Chief Secretary) at regular intervals. The government is ready to fund it,” he added.

Chandrashekhar Rao pointed out that Hyderabad city had all facilities ranging from an international airport to conducive weather conditions, adequate drinking water under Mission Bhagiratha to fill up large reservoirs with water from Krishna and Godavari Rivers. He said the Basthi Dawakhanas were also receiving good response from people and their numbers were gradually increasing. He emphasised the need to identify large pieces of land to set up integrated markets for fruits, vegetables, meat and fish.

The officials were instructed to find permanent solutions to problems such as revenue land registration, ensure quality and uninterrupted power supply, laying roads and sewage pipelines, and ensuring cleanliness, and also overcome the problems of flooding due to rains. “Both these districts will be able to compete with Hyderabad in the future with the development of satellite townships, and bring qualitative change to Hyderabad,” the Chief Minister said. He stated that all measures would be taken for development of ULBs including Shadnagar, Peddamberpet, Ibrahimpatnam, Jalpally, Shamshabad, Thurkyamjal, Manikonda, Narsingi, Adibhatla, Shankarpally, Thukkuguda, Amangal, Badangpet, Bandlaguda Jagir, Meerpet, Jillelaguda, Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, Jawahar Nagar, Nizampeta, Medchal, Dammaiguda, Nagaram, Pocharam and Ghatkesar, Gundla Pochampally, Thumkunta, Kompally and Dundigal.

Chandrashekhar Rao said that all these areas have already become part of Hyderabad and development plans should be drawn keeping in view the future needs. He said people from different parts of the State as well as the country were migrating to Hyderabad in search of livelihood and jobs. “It is crucial to allocate necessary funds, set up a nodal agency, and carry out development works in all directions of Hyderabad,” he said.

The Chief Secretary will hold a meeting with Ministers, MLAs, MLCs, other public representatives, officials of various government departments involved in the creation of infrastructure like education, health, power, municipal, Mission Bhagiratha, among others, besides the District Collectors of both the districts.
