Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Pro Cal Services, with exposure to pharma clean room buildings and projects, pitched in when there was a need to establish Covid testing labs at diagnostics centres faster and economical. The company has so far helped set up over 30 Covid-19 RT-PCR Labs across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, at one-third of the market cost.
When the pandemic struck, the company initially started supplying biosafety cabinets and supportive instruments to diagnostics companies, but when there was a severe shortage of testing labs, the company extended its expertise in developing them, led by its 29-year-old founder.
J R Rohith Gowda, founder and managing director, Pro Cal Services, told Telangana Today, “We noticed that companies were charging a premium for the construction of testing labs, as much as Rs 40-50 lakhs per lab, which is way too much. This is when I decided to pitch in to reduce the cost of developing these labs. We made it possible in just Rs 12-15 lakhs including construction and infrastructure. In Hyderabad alone, we helped create 10 RT-PCR labs.”
“Diagnostics companies from several States started approaching us for design, building or extending support to set up the test labs. In cases where we have provided design support, we haven’t charged a penny. I wanted to support establishing labs at a reasonable cost within just a 15 days period and help out in faster testing of individuals, to ease the burden on the testing ecosystem,” he added.
The company also partnered with diagnostics companies to create portable testing labs. “We had discussions with certain hospitals in Hyderabad such as Apollo and Global Hospitals. We are in talks with a Tata entity and others,” informed Gowda.
Pro Cal Services, which started its operations in November 2018 as a calibration company, entered trading of pharma and medical instruments, and after seeing growth in demand, established its own facility at Chengicherla in Hyderabad.
The company that caters to pharmaceutical companies pan-India, is aiming to reduce import dependency for machines such as conveyor line systems and carbon dioxide incubators used in the pharmaceuticals sector, which are short at present.
