Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Indian freedom struggle was inspired with the spirit of equality, but not for usurping power. The freedom struggle was driven by the preachings of saints, who strived for equality of all sections, he said after unveiling the 216 feet Statue of Equality- Sri Ramanuja at Muchintal here on Saturday.
“On the auspicious occasion of Vasant Sri Ramanuja Panchami, I pray to Goddess Saraswathi that the knowledge of Sri Ramanuja leads through world,” said Prime Minister Modi.
This towering statue of Sri Ramanuja will inspire the generations to come as the life of Sri Ramanuja clearly shows there was no conflict between reforms and traditions, he said.
In tune with the Sri Ramanuja’s teachings, Modi said the Central government’s policies and schemes were ensuring welfare and development of all sections without any discrimination.
The Prime Minister said Telugu culture and traditions, which were patronised by Kakatiya, Satavahana and Vijayanagara rulers, were acclaimed world over. The UNESCO accorded heritage site recognition to Ramappa temple and the UNWTO declared Pochampally as the best World Tourism Village, he said.
“Even the Telugu film industry was being appreciated worldwide for its creativity. Right from silver screen to OTT platforms, the film industry was promoting Telugu art and culture,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier, the Prime Minister participated in the Visvaksena Ishti Purnahuti. He also took a tour of 108 Divya Deshas, which are replicas of 108 temples across the country.
Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy said the Prime Minister made the country and the Hindus live with pride with his vision and work. “He is the right person to unveil the Statue of Equality,” said the Chinna Jeeyar.
Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said the Statue of Equality would place Hyderabad on global tourist map. The Central Government would ensure that many people especially Hindus from across the world visit this place, he said.
Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and My Home Group of Companies Chairman Jupally Rameshwar Rao were present on the occasion.
