Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police bagged the prestigious Skoch Award-2021 (Silver) under the category ‘Police and Safety’ for the project ‘Police Pre-recruitment training programme’. The award was announced during the Skoch Summit conducted on Tuesday.
City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, who received the award, mentioned the decision of the government allowing 33 per cent reservation for women in recruitments and focus was kept on onboarding maximum women into the police force.
“The step from the government was a boost and efforts made in that direction paid satisfying results in the form of increased enrolment of women both in training and subsequent selection processes,” he said.
The Commissioner encouraged the initiatives of Skoch Award Management for setting up a common platform and helping raise standards and recognising the efforts of departments and ministries and encouraging the best practices for better governance.
The Police Pre-recruitment training programme, is one of the community-oriented policing initiatives of Hyderabad Police since 2015 intended for unemployed youth aspiring to join the police force. Under the initiative, training was first time organized on a large scale, followed by the notification from Police Recruitment Board in the year 2015 and as a result, 267 candidates got selected into the force. Encouraged by the results, it was decided to intensely concentrate on such training at all zonal levels.
Further in the year 2018-2019, when a gazette notification for the large-scale recruitment of Sub-Inspectors and Police Constables was released, awareness campaigns were conducted in all the police stations and registrations at police stations levels and social media was taken up. The city police receive about 1,000 registrations from unemployed aspirants from each zone.
