Hyderabad: Police constable allegedly dies by suicide at LB Nagar station

A police constable allegedly died by suicide at LB Nagar Police Station on Wednesday. The deceased, Sai Kumar, was found hanging by colleagues. His family has questioned the circumstances of his death and sought his mobile phone and clarity from police.

Hyderabad: A police constable’s death at the LB Nagar ACP office on Wednesday triggered protests by his family members, who questioned the circumstances surrounding his death and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.

The victim was identified as J Sai Kumar, a 2024-batch constable attached to the LB Nagar ACP office for e-Cops duty.

According to the police, he was on night duty when staff found him hanging in the restroom of the ACP office around 2.30 am. He was rushed to the nearby Kamineni Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The body was later shifted to Osmania General Hospital for an autopsy.

Sai Kumar was reportedly staying in a room with friends at Karmanghat.

Following his death, his family members staged a protest outside the LB Nagar Police Station, questioning why they were not informed before the body was shifted for autopsy. They also sought the constable’s mobile phone, saying it could contain information relevant to his death.

Sai Kumar’s mother questioned the circumstances of the death, asking, “If he was hanging, how did the bleeding occur?”

The family alleged foul play and demanded a comprehensive probe into the incident. They also raised questions of depression due to workload leading to the suicide.

The death led to tension in the area, with political and Banjara community leaders joining the protest and demanding justice for the family.

They urged the Telangana DGP and Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police to visit the spot and speak to the family.

The LB Nagar Police have registered a case and are investigating. The exact circumstances and reason behind Sai Kumar’s death are yet to be established.
