Hyderabad: The police have intensified their crackdown on the manufacture and sale of adulterated ginger-garlic paste, uncovering units allegedly operating in unhygienic conditions and using substandard raw materials.

On June 23, the H-FAST team, along with a Food Safety Officer, raided a manufacturing unit at Shastripuram, where officials found ginger-garlic paste being prepared under unhygienic conditions. The team alleged that inferior-quality raw materials were being used during the manufacturing process, raising concerns over food safety.

Earlier, in March, H-FAST officials raided another manufacturing unit at Katedan and seized 4,032 kg of ginger-garlic paste and over 6,200 kg of low-quality raw materials and other items worth around Rs.22 lakh.

Officials found the products being stored in open containers exposed to dust and flies before being packed without proper food safety certification. According to the police, the adulterated paste was being supplied to wholesale kirana stores, restaurants and catering services across Hyderabad.

Health experts warn that consuming adulterated ginger-garlic paste prepared in unhygienic conditions can expose people to harmful bacteria, fungi and chemical contaminants. Such products can cause food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach infections and allergic reactions.
