Hyderabad: With summer vacations, many families go visiting their native towns or embark on trips to tourist destinations. These activities usually span several days and weeks and end up leaving homes often unguarded—creating ideal conditions for thefts and burglaries.

Cyberabad DCP Crimes, LC Naik, has advised the citizens to stay alert and follow simple precautions to ensure safety during the season. With community cooperation and basic preventive measures, the designs of thieves and burglars could be checkmated.

Naik urge the citizens to inform the local police station about their departure and arrival plans if they need to lock their homes. “Install locks with a central locking system for added security and also arrange a security alarm system with motion sensors for your house,” he said.

The police advised citizens to keep two-wheelers inside the compound, ensure they are locked, and if possible, secure them with wheel chains. Naik further suggest hiring trusted watchmen or security guards for the property. Install CCTV cameras at entry and exit points of home and monitor them online. Ensure the DVR is stored in a secure location.

“Avoid leaving garbage, milk packets, or newspapers outside your house, as this may indicate your absence to criminals. Cover locked doors with curtains to prevent them from being visible to strangers,” he says. Keep some lights on inside and outside your home to create the impression of occupancy, he adds.

“If you suspect any person, please call on Dial 100 or Cyberabad Police Control Room 9490617100 or WhatsApp number 9490617444,” Naik advise.

Police Advisory:

• Inform trusted neighbours about your absence

• Ask neighbours to look after your home

• Avoid leaving keys in easily accessible places such as shoe racks, under pillows, above cupboards

• Form local safety committees within your colony or apartment

• Hire reliable watchmen and keep a register of visitors, especially at night

• Support police efforts by coordinating for night patrolling in your area

• Keep contact numbers of local police stations and beat constables handy

• Do not disclose your travel plans to anyone except trusted individuals

• Avoid sharing travel details on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook
