Hyderabad: A mega blood donation programme was held across Hyderabad City on Monday. The programme was held at 10 places in the city, including the CAR headquarters at Petlaburj.
Telangana Director General of Police, B Shivadhar Reddy, inaugurated the camp at the Petlaburj CAR headquarters in presence of Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V C Sajjanar.
Speaking on the occasion, Shivadhar Reddy appreciated the Hyderabad police for organising the camps and said the initiative in full spirit will be taken up across the State as a big campaign. “In Telangana, around 8000 people die in road accidents every year, of which 20 to 30 per cent may be dying only because they don’t get blood for transfusion. In road accidents, there is an urgent need for blood transfusion to the victims within the golden hour period,” he said.
VC Sajjanar, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, said people should make it a point to have one member from their family as a blood donor. “If a member from every family becomes a blood donor, then there will be no shortage of blood during emergencies and nobody would need to run around in medical emergencies,” said Sajjanar.
Across the city, around 4000 policemen and volunteers attended and donated blood at the camps.
