Hyderabad: A 33-year-old fruit vendor died by suicide allegedly after struggling with mounting debts, business losses and harassment by moneylenders in Gudimalkapur.

According to police, K Naresh, a resident of Bhojagutta, had borrowed money and was reportedly burdened by high interest repayments. Financial difficulties and losses in his business allegedly led to family disputes, leaving him upset.

On May 27, Naresh allegedly consumed unknown pesticide at his residence in the absence of his family members. He was later rushed to a private hospital, where he remained under treatment before succumbing on Thursday.

Based on a complaint from the family, Gudimalkapur police registered a case and detained few persons for questioning. An investigation is underway from all angles.

Former Gudimalkapur corporator Bangari Prakash visited the victim’s family at the police station and demanded stringent action against those allegedly collecting exorbitant interest from borrowers. Family members appealed to the authorities to ensure justice.
