Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police have solved the brutal murder case of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin and arrested Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Mujahid Alam Khan and others in connection with the case on Friday.

Officials said it was a carefully planned contract killing linked to long-running disputes over Waqf properties in the city.

The advocate was fatally injured on May 23 after being struck by a speeding SUV outside his residence at Masab Tank while heading out for his morning swim. Though the case was initially treated as a hit-and-run incident, investigators later found evidence suggesting that the collision was intentional.

According to police, CCTV footage showed a green Mahindra Scorpio waiting near the advocate’s residence before deliberately ramming into him and fleeing the scene. The footage, along with technical surveillance and field investigation, helped police identify the suspects involved in the conspiracy.

Police alleged that the murder was orchestrated by Mujahid Alam Khan and his father Mahaboob Alam Khan, who were involved in prolonged legal and Waqf Tribunal disputes with the deceased advocate.

“The suspects believed Moizuddin’s legal interventions were causing them setbacks in several property-related cases,” said Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar.

The investigation further revealed that the murder was planned through a network of associates and hired operatives for a contract amount of Rs 15 lakh. A reconnaissance operation was conducted for several months to monitor the advocate’s movements and identify an opportunity to execute the attack.

A breakthrough came after investigators traced one of the accused, Kishan alias Pappu, to Panipat in Haryana. “During questioning, he disclosed details of the conspiracy, including the procurement of the vehicle, surveillance activities and the involvement of multiple individuals in the execution of the crime,” Sajjanar said.

Subsequently, police teams arrested several suspects from different locations in the city, including the alleged conspirators and persons accused of arranging logistics, driving the vehicle and assisting in the operation.

Cash, mobile phones and the vehicle used in the offence were seized during the investigation.

Police said efforts were on to nab the absconding suspects and gather additional evidence connected to the conspiracy.
