Hyderabad police to intensify drunken driving checks after Kurnool tragedy

After a tragic accident in Kurnool caused by a drunk rider killed 20 people, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar announced intensified citywide drunken driving checks. Sajjanar warned that offenders will face strict legal action as part of new safety measures

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad city police will be intensifying its drunken driving checks around the city to prevent fatal road accidents.

City Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar, interacting with media persons on Monday, said in the backdrop of the ghastly road accident at Kurnool involving a drunk bike rider, which claimed 20 lives, the Hyderabad police will take all steps to prevent any accidents in the city.


“We will be intensifying the drunken driving checks in the city. The drunk drivers will not be spared at any cost and have to face legal consequences,” he said.

A day earlier, the Hyderabad Commissioner had termed drunk drivers as terrorists.

It is learnt, a team of traffic officials is studying the road accidents attributed to drunk driving in the city before finalising their strategy to combat the dangerous practice.
