Hyderabad: The City Police said they would inform managements of IT companies about the involvement of their employees in illegal activities, including drug consumption and sale.

“During our investigations, it has come to light that some people working in the IT sector are getting involved in supply and consumption of drugs. It is responsibility of the management to see that their employees do not get involved in such illegal activities,” City Police Commissioner CV Anand said.

During questioning of IT professionals involved in drug cases, it was found that they were buying the drugs through various channels including online platforms and consuming it at parties and get-togethers.

“Drug consumers are under the perception that the police will not be able to catch them or initiate action against them. They are wrong. We are already maintaining a vigil on those consuming drugs and will catch them with evidence,” the Commissioner said, adding that the action would involve informing their employer about the arrest as well.

“Companies usually initiate disciplinary action against those arrested in criminal cases. Although, we don’t want to trouble anyone, we cannot keep quiet if anyone breaks the law repeatedly,” he said.

The police were also taking up drug awareness campaigns across the city including in private companies and educational institutions.

“We expect the management of IT companies and educational institutions to keep a watch on the happenings on their premises,” Anand added.
