Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals (SSHH) has successfully treated and discharged a premature baby born at just 28 weeks of gestation, weighing only 860 grams at birth. The baby, delivered at SSHH Nizampet, was shifted in a very critical condition to SSHH Kondapur, on the first day of life. At admission, the baby was diagnosed with severe sepsis, shock, and respiratory failure, requiring mechanical ventilation. The newborn was kept in an incubator and managed with intensive care for nearly 50-days.

To save the life of the infant, the caregivers administered advanced antibiotics, surfactant therapy for lung support, and medications for heart stabilisation, the baby gradually improved. During the hospital stay, the baby developed jaundice three times and was managed successfully with intensive phototherapy. Importantly, no major complications such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia were observed.

After 50 days of NICU care, the baby was discharged at a healthy weight of 1.57 kg, accepting feeds well, with good neurological status. The mother was trained in Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), paladai feeding, and home care techniques to ensure continued healthy growth, the doctors said.
