Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police Commissionerate saw an increase of 42.5 per cent in cybercrime cases this year. While last year, 2562 cybercrime cases were booked, this year, as many as 4458 cybercrime cases were reported in the Commissonerate.

Out of the 4, 458 cybercrime cases, a total of 2125 were related to investment/part time job frauds and close to 53 suspects both interstate and foreign nationals were arrested. A total amount of Rs 23.12 crore was frozen in bank accounts of cyber fraudsters and Rs 21.94 crore was refunded/ returned to the victims of cyber fraud, officials said.

As per data, frauds related to part time jobs constituted the major part with 2125 cases, followed by 996 phishing/vishing/smishing cases, 634 cases of crypto/investment/sextortion/matrimonial frauds. The least being 9 cases related to data theft.

Rachakonda police commissioner G Sudheer Babu said, “Cybercrime is increasing steadily. Even our children will have to face cybercrime issues in future. If the perpetrators are physical, we can curtail them. But, in cybercrime, the suspect sits somewhere in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar making it difficult for the police to curb their activities.”

Road Safety:

The Rachakonda Police Commissionerate has witnessed an overall reduction of 12.30 per cent in road crashes in 2024, thanks to the Accident Analysis Prevention Team (AAPT).

While a total of 3657 road mishaps were reported in 2023, the number came down to 3207 in 2024. The accidents on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) too have dropped from 66 to 46 i.e., 30.30 per cent this year.

“Our focus was on preventing fatal road crashes and life loss at any cost. For this, the AAPT team had done an outstanding job and the results are seen. Due to proactive measures, there has been a significant reduction in road mishap cases,” said G Sudheer Babu, Rachakonda Police Commissioner.

Crime against women:

The crime against women cases has dropped by 9 per cent in 2024, with officials citing strict women and children safety mechanism in place as a reason.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu said in most cases, the suspects were known or related to the victims in cases of crime against women.

According to the police officials, while in 384 cases, suspects were known to the victims, in 322 cases suspects were friends of the victims. Others, including colleagues, guardians, servants, drivers, relatives and family friends were suspects in 40 cases.

“We are serious on crime against women and children. We will not tolerate it at any cost. More victims had freely come forward to lodge a complaint with the police. This is a good indication which shows their confidence in the police,” Sudheer Babu said.
