Hyderabad Rain: IT corridor junctions choke under rain and civic works

Heavy rains in Hyderabad, coupled with ongoing civic works, triggered severe traffic congestion across GHMC, CMC, and MMC limits. Key IT corridor junctions such as Madhapur, Hitec City, Cyber Towers, and Biodiversity Junction faced gridlocks, while major stretches in Secunderabad and central Hyderabad also reported jams.

Hyderabad: Monsoon, albeit delayed and scanty this season, is the most dreaded by the commuters in Hyderabad.

Whether it be the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) or the newly carved out Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC), traffic suffers badly when it rains.

Ongoing works on flyovers, underpasses and an elevated corridor in the three civic bodies have added to commuters’ traffic woes during peak hours.

In CMC, traffic congestion and flooding of the roads on Tuesday night disrupted commuter movement at multiple junctions in the IT corridor, with key bottlenecks reported around Madhapur, Hi-tech City and the Financial District. At IKEA Junction and Flyover, commuters reported a massive vehicle accumulation heading from Cyber Towers.

Simultaneously, commuters experienced slow movement of traffic at Wipro Junction. At Kothaguda Junction, traffic accumulated due to water stagnation on the roads, resulting in slow, bumpy movement of vehicles moving towards Botanical Garden and Kondapur.

The Cyber Towers Circle remained the primary bottleneck connecting Madhapur, Hi-Tech City and Kukatpally, and continuous rains on Wednesday resulted in significant traffic jams. At another busy Bio-Diversity Junction, commuters faced traffic jams while approaching the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

In the MMC, vehicles piled up at Safilguda AOC Centre and Malkajgiri stretches, slowing traffic at the junctions.
In GHMC limits, commuters were caught in traffic jams at Khairatabad, LokPal Road (Raj Bhavan Road), Lakdi-ka-Pul, Assembly, Begum bazaar, Secunderabad, Paradise circle and up to Secunderabad Railway station.
