Hyderabad: The Rajendranagar Special Operations Team (SOT), in a joint operation along with the local police have arrested a man for allegedly selling venison (deer meat) illegally in Attapur on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as Mohd Irfanuddin of Suleman Nagar, was nabbed while selling venison and police recovered around 15 kg of deer meat and Rs 3,000 in cash from him.

Police said the meat was transported from Pebbair in Wanaparthy district and sold locally at about Rs 800 per kg.

Investigators are examining whether the case involves organised poaching and links to a wider wildlife trafficking network.

The arrested person and seized material were handed over to the Attaput police for further action. A case has been registered under wildlife protection laws and is being investigated.
