Hyderabad: Sporting traditional attire, thousands of devotees from across the city participated in the ‘shobha yatra’ organised to mark the occasion of Sri Rama Navami in the older parts of the city on Sunday.

The main procession was taken out from the Seetharambagh temple at Asifnagar to Hanuman Vyamshala at Koti. The procession passed through Mangalhat, Jummerat Bazaar, Chuddi Bazaar, Begum Bazaar, Siddiamber Bazaar, and Koti before culminating.

All along the route, devotees established platforms to welcome the participants and offered them soft drinks, butter milk, snacks and bottled water. The sweltering heat did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants who wore saffron scarfs and headgear matching to the rest of the gathering. Women and children also joined the motorcycle procession which also saw some artists dressed as deities mingling with the crowd and shaking hands.

At a few points, public address system aired devotional songs while speakers urged the devotees to adhere to the teachings of lord Rama. The procession was taken out after two years due to the Covid-triggered lockdowns.

The police on their part made adequate security arrangements. Drones were used to patrol the skies and keep watch on the procession while senior officials of the city police moved on foot along with the procession.

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, CV Anand, who interacted with the media, said that the procession passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.
