Hyderabad records sharp fall in temperatures, IMD issues rain alert

Hyderabad has witnessed a sharp dip in temperatures over the past two days, with minimum levels dropping to 24.2 degrees Celsius at Serilingampally and several areas recording below 25 degrees Celsius. The IMD has forecast cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in parts of Telangana on Sunday.

Hyderabad: Nights are getting colder, and so are the days in the city. Though the monsoon is yet to arrive as expected, with little or no rain so far, the city has for the past two days remained under cloud cover, with the mercury plummeting sharply.

On Saturday, according to Telangana Development Planning Society data, the city’s lowest minimum temperature of 24.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at Serilingampally.


Several areas, including Chandanagar, Ramachandrapuram and Patancheruvu, Jubilee Hills, Rajendranagar, Yousufguda, Moosapet, Santosh Nagar, Karwan and Kapra too registered minimum temperature below 25 degrees Celsius.

The city’s lowest minimum temperature, as per the TGDPS forecast for three days, is expected to come down to 23.5 degrees Celsius at Serilingampally, Chandanagar and Ramachandrapuram and Patancheruvu.

Days have also started to be comparatively cooler with TGDPS recording the lowest day temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius at Moosapet while the highest day temperature today was 34.9 degrees Celsius at Chandrayangutta.

Forecast for next three days also looks at the maximum temperatures in the city further coming down to 28.5 degrees Celsius at Serilingampally, Chandanagar, Ramachandrapuram & Patancheru, Moosapet, Kukatpally, Qutubullapur, Gajularamaram, and Alwal. As for the districts, the maximum temperature of 38.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Khammam, while the lowest of 22.5 degrees Celsius was observed in Sangareddy district.

Meanwhile, the IMD Hyderabad bulletin said Hyderabad recorded maximum and minimum temperatures of 31.2 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively on Saturday.

As per the forecast, the city’s sky will remain cloudy on Sunday with light to moderate rain or thundershowers, and possibility of heavy spells at one or two places towards evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 degree Celsius and 22 degree Celsius respectively.

The Met department continued with its yellow warning, indicating heavy rain alert at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Nagarkurnool districts for Sunday.
