Hyderabad: Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet! Everyone now and then a new Covid variant pops up. But not all variants seem to be causing harm, only a few concerning variants arise. Omicron is one such variant due to which thousands of cases started to report in India.

In the wake of Covid-19 cases peaking, Relief Riders, a cycling community of Hyderabad have relaunched their program to lend their helping hand for the Hyderabadis.

The cycling community is gearing up to deliver medicines, food and groceries at the doorsteps for the elderly people and other essentials to the vulnerable.

Santhana Selvan, the Bicycle Mayor of Hyderabad said, “hearing about the spike in Covid cases and neighboring states going for night curfews. We decided to relaunch the program. And as soon as we relaunched, we didn’t encounter a flood of calls but we are picking a few calls”.

He mentioned, earlier during the second wave of Covid-19, 300 volunteers joined the effort and did an amazing job. He further added, “at that time, we used to get nearly 500 calls a day and we managed to deliver around 150 plus people with essentials, medicines and we even took up free food delivery services. From then, we kept all the volunteers engaged through Whatsapp groups and held other activities in Hyderabad”. Now, as we relaunched the poster, a few voluntarily called us to be a part of this program, he adds.

The cyclist said, during the second wave they went with the flow and took up challenges. But now, they are well equipped as a student community (coding.studio) created a mobile application which is now in the final stages. Through the application anyone can send requests.

In these tough times, the positive thing is that volunteers are coming forward to lend their hand. Hyderabadis are amazing, he added.
