Hyderabad: A retired employee was allegedly cheated of Rs 11.69 lakh by cyber fraudsters posing as bank officials under the pretext of updating his life certificate.
According to the information available, the fraudsters collected the complainant’s Aadhaar and debit card details and persuaded him to share his mobile phone screen during a WhatsApp video call.
“They subsequently transferred money from his fixed deposit and savings accounts in six separate transactions without his knowledge, resulting in a loss of nearly Rs 11.69 lakh,” police said.
The Cybercrime police have urged citizens, particularly pensioners and retired employees, to beware of fraudsters misusing life certificate updates as a pretext to target them.
