Hyderabad: With a significant fall in Covid-19 cases after two years, people came out in large numbers across the city to celebrate Holi on Friday after last year’s muted celebrations.
Streets were drenched in colours as revellers, dancing to the beat of drums, smeared gulal and splashed colour balloons on each other.
Cries of ‘Holi hai’ reverberated across the city and in some areas, locals played music to add to the mood of the festival. Children and grownups alike were seen playing with water and colours while colourful rangoli patterns were drawn at the entrances of houses to mark the festival.
Markets were decked out with various hues with water pumps being sold fast. Sweet shops too did brisk business. Many housing societies and residential complexes organised lavish feasts.
Open-air Holi events made a splashing comeback after two years of muted festivities. Several hotels, resorts and restaurants also lured patrons as they organised rain dance parties and Holi snacks and buffets, attracting big crowds.
While the entire city was soaked in colours, the revelry on the streets of Dhoolpet, Begum Bazaar, General Bazaar and Goshamahal was twofold with celebrants grooving to tunes of famous Bollywood songs and throwing colours at each other.
The Hyderabad City Police made elaborate arrangements to ensure a safe Holi with police personnel being deployed across the city.
