Hyderabad: A long-standing rivalry turned violent in Petbasheerabad, leading to the death of one person while another is battling for life in hospital.
As per available information, Srikanth Goud (37) of Dulapally owned several sheds in Steel City and earned a living by renting them out.
His friend Ali (36), who lived in the same area, ran auto-trolleys. Ali used to share leads of customers needing heavy material transport with crane operator Anand from Shapur Nagar, and in return, Anand referred clients to Ali.
However, disputes had earlier arose between the two over business dealings.
On Thursday night, Srikanth and Ali, along with Raju, consumed liquor at a shed. Afterward, they stepped out and happened to see Anand driving past in a crane. Ali picked a quarrel with him, which escalated into heated arguments. Fearing the situation, Anand left the spot but returned a short while later with four others.
By then, Raju had left the place, leaving Srikanth and Ali behind. Anand and his associates attacked them with iron rods.
Srikanth was struck on the head from behind, collapsing on the spot and dying instantly. Ali suffered grievous injuries and collapsed, after which locals rushed him to a hospital.
Petbasheerabad police are investigating.
