Hyderabad: Thieves broke open the dickey of a scooter parked at a private bank ATM centre and stole Rs 5 lakh at Medchal late on Saturday.
Police said Bikshapathi, a brick contractor from Saidhonigadda Thanda in Medchal, had asked his nephew Rajendra to withdraw cash from the bank in order to pay wages to the workers.
Rajendra along with his friend Laxman went to a private bank on the scooter and as per instruction, withdrew cash from Bikshapathi’s bank account. They then went to the ATM centre at some distance away from the bank to withdraw some more money.
“They parked the scooter with the cash bag inside the dickey and went to another ATM kiosk. When they returned, the dickey was open and the cash bag was missing,” the police said.
Based on a complaint, the Medchal police booked a case and have taken up investigation. The footage from the surveillance cameras are being examined.
