Hyderabad RWAs gear up for Ganesh festival with eco-friendly idols

With three days left for Ganesh Chaturthi, Hyderabad RWAs are preparing eco-friendly celebrations, strengthening pandals ahead of rains and shifting festivities to apartment cellars where needed. Communities have also decided to keep devotional music at low volume and end it by 10 pm.

Hyderabad: With just three days left for Ganesh Chaturthi, a vibrant festive spirit is prevailing across Hyderabad’s residential colonies. Several Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) decided to celebrate the festival with eco-friendly Ganesh idols.

Marking an auspicious Thursday, RWAs commenced celebrations with the sacred ‘Karra Pooja’ to ground their open-air mandapams. Anticipating the rains, many communities are already working ahead of schedule—welding iron frames and erecting resilient stages to safeguard their pandals from the elements.

The TGSPDCL has cleared the main and internal roads by trimming trees across local colonies, paving the way for the smooth transportation of Ganesh idols. With over 30 to 40 percent of colony internal roads completely blocked, local access has reached a critical standstill. To navigate these challenges, several RWAs opted to host their festivities within their apartment cellars.

Further, the RWAs decided to limit the festival’s devotional music to a low volume, concluding by 10 pm.

This step has been taken to maintain a supportive environment for IT professionals working from home, students focusing on their studies, senior citizens, and residents dealing with health concerns.
