Hyderabad: Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) of Greater Hyderabad on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with city-based NGO Sarvejana Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting road safety.

Through this MoU, the RWAs will collaborate with Sarvejana Foundation to conduct road safety awareness programmes across the city. “The RWAs, along with Sarvejana, will raise their voices to increase public awareness about road accidents with the aim of significantly reducing their occurrence,” said BT Srinivasan, general secretary of the United Federation of RWAs (UFERWAS).

According to a recent study, the leading causes of road accidents in India include speeding, non-usage of helmets and seat belts, overloading, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and distracted driving such as mobile phone use, he added.

Sarvejana Foundation is promoted by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr AV Gurava Reddy, who specialises in joint replacement surgeries.
