Hyderabad: A woman from Saidabad was cheated to the tune of Rs 3.38 lakh on the pretext of marriage by an unknown person who came in contact through a matrimonial website.
The man introduced himself as a doctor working in United Kingdom and evinced interest in marrying her. Both had conversations over WhatsApp calls for a few weeks.
According to the police, the conman, after gaining confidence of the woman, convinced her to open two bank accounts and asked her to send them to ‘UK Affairs office’ in New Delhi. “The woman received a visa and marriage-related documents, which later turned out to be fake papers. On the pretext of charges for visa fee, luggage issues and processing fee, the woman was forced to transfer Rs 3.38 lakh,” said Hyderabad cyber-crime police.
After losing contact with the man, the woman grew suspicious and approached the cybercrime police, who registered a case. Efforts are on to identify and nab the suspect.
