Hyderabad: Tension prevailed after residents of Patny Nagar gheroed the SCB Chief Executive Officer, D Madhukar Nail, when he visited the colony to assess the flooding situation on Saturday.
After Friday’s heavy downpour, the Patny Nala overflowed and flooded Patny Nagar with drainage water. Over 50 families reside in Patny Nagar and a few of them were evacuated on Friday night by Hydraa’s special monsoon teams after the locality was inundated.
Today, the SCB CEO visited the area along with the engineering and sanitation wing staff to rebuild the wall on the nala. However, the angered residents of Patny Nagar surrounded the Chief Executive Officer and expressed their anger over flooding in their area.
On the wall being demolished without their consent, the residents criticised Hydraa’s action on the demolition and blamed the SCB and Hydraa for inundation of their locality. They sought clarification regarding the decision to demolish the wall without prior notice.
CEO Madhukar Naik told them that Hydraa took up the demolition of illegal commercial building on the nala based on complaints from locals that their area faces inundation every monsoon. It is proposed to build a retaining wall to prevent further encroachment on the nala and also to ensure the safety of the residents, he said.
The CEO also mentioned that a few owners of Patny Nagar approached the court to prevent the construction of the retaining wall on the nala which he deemed totally unfair.
Meanwhile, the SCB sanitation wing deployed men and machinery to clean the mud piled up in the cellars and on the internal roads and to remove the drainage water. Police were deployed at Patny Nagar to avoid any untoward incidents.
