Hyderabad scientist Dr Dorairajan Balasubramanian honoured by CCMB
Dr D Balasubramanian, noted biophysical chemist from Hyderabad, was felicitated on CCMB’s 10th Founder’s Day. Scientists recalled his contributions, including his tenure as Director and his efforts to integrate science and arts at CCMB and LV Prasad Eye Institute.

Hyderabad: Noted biophysical chemist from Hyderabad, Dr Dorairajan Balasubramanian, was felicitated by senior scientists at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) on the occasion of its 10th Founder’s Day, celebrated on Sunday.
The CCMB Foundation Day, celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr PM Bhargava, Founding Director of CCMB, was celebrated by felicitating Dr Balasubramanian and recalling his contribution to the premier genetic research institute.
Prof D Balasubramanian was associated with CCMB from 1982 to 1998 as a faculty member, including as its Director from 1992 to 1998. He was conferred with Padma Shri in 2002.
On the occasion, Prof Balasubramanian recounted his time at CCMB and emphasised the culture of science and arts co-existing at the institute, one that he also took ahead to LVPEI.
Some of the top scientists from CCMB and across the country who shared their memories of working with Prof Balasubramanian included Dr GN Rao, Founder, LVPEI; Prof KN Ganesh, Founder Director, IISER-Pune; Prof LS Shashidhara, Director, National Centre for Biological Sciences; Prof Anuradha Lohia, Founder CEO of DBT/Wellcome India Alliance; Prof P Balaram, former Director, IISc; Prof Dipankar Chatterji from IISc, Director, CCMB; Dr Vinay K Nandicoori and others.
