Hyderabad: South Central Railways (SCR) General Manager, Gajanan Mallya undertook an inspection of the data centre at the passenger reservation complex, Secunderabad, on Wednesday. He also reviewed the progress of interim disaster data recovery and the Indian Railways cloud centre at Moula-Ali.

Mallya inspected the existing data centre on the first floor of the PRS complex and undertook an intensive inspection of the console room, data server room and other data equipments, a press release said.

The data recovery centre at the passenger reservation complex is providing backup for Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Electronic Procurement System (EPS) applications across the Indian Railways network. The officials gave a brief presentation to the General Manager on the need to set up exclusive in-house data recovery and cloud data centre, which is being planned at Moula-Ali.

Mallya said that in the present scenario of digitalisation, there is an urgent need for cloud storage and alternate data recovery centres and Hyderabad is a better place for the data recovery centre as it is less prone to natural calamities.
