Hyderabad: To address the issues of traffic in different parts of the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up a series of works. And one such project is the construction of Punjagutta Steel Bridge.
The construction of the bridge in the vicinities of an ever-busy Punjagutta has been completed and is scheduled to be inaugurated soon. The facility which happens to be the second steel bridge at Punjagutta, the first being the one built to ease the traffic coming from Banjara Hills Road No 3 and moving towards Punjagutta.
Earlier, the road stretch which connects to several busy locations, mainly the commercial centres of the city, used to remain choked with traffic congestion and resultant long jams. While the first steel bridge brought respite for the issues plaguing the motorists on the stretch, the new bridge is expected to ensure a smooth and steady flow for the vehicular movement here.
The project to set up the second steel bridge was taken up with a budget of around Rs 17 crore that included land acquisition costing nearly Rs 6 crore. The total length of the bridge is 140 meters which includes the 83 meters steel bridge portion and 57 meters approaches.
The facility will ease vehicular traffic movement from NFCL Junction popularly known as Nagarjuna Circle to KBR Park Junction and also reduce traffic congestion at the existing gate of the crematorium here. The new steel bridge has been designed keeping in mind sentiments of people given the location of cemetery here. “People can perform rituals at the graves which are under the bridge and there is ample space. The bridge has been designed accordingly,” said a GHMC official.
The civic body has also developed a dedicated road connecting the steel bridge and presently road widening works are underway near the cemetery. The road from here is being widened till High Tension tower located on Road No 3 Banjara Hills. Plans are also underway to connect Nagarjuna Circle with the road adjacent to Jalagam Vengalrao Park Road in Banjara Hills via the steel bridge.
“The plan is to make the steel bridge as the entrance at the crematorium and the road near Jalagam Vengalrao Park Road as the exit. The process of land acquisition is underway,” said an official monitoring the steel bridge works.
