Hyderabad: Member of Rajya Sabha, J Santosh Kumar on Tuesday highlighted the recently released India State of Forest Report (ISFR-2021), which showcased the growing green cover in and around Hyderabad and the success achieved in afforestation across Telangana, thanks to the Haritha Haram initiative of Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The TRS MP, who has been promoting Green Indian Challenge (GIC) initiative for the past few years, on Twitter said “My heart has swelled with this amazing report. There has been an enormous growth of green cover in Hyderabad in the last decade with a staggering 147 per cent hike in last 10 years. All credits to the vision of Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao, who started the Haritha Haram programme.”

Along with the tweet, Santosh Kumar also shared a graph of ‘Forest Cover between IFSR 2011 and ISFR 2021’ in Mega Cities from the IFSR-2021 report, which highlighted the huge 147 per cent decadal growth in forest cover in Hyderabad.

“There is an increase of 68 square kilometre of forest cover in the last ten years. Maximum gain in forest cover is seen in Hyderabad (48.66 square kilometre) followed by Delhi (19.91 square kilometre) while Ahmedabad and Bengaluru have lost forest cover of 8.55 square kilometres and 4.98 square kilometres respectively, the report said.
