Hyderabad: Senior citizen loses Rs 96 lakh in cyber fraud
A 75-year-old retired employee from Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, was tricked into a cyber fraud scheme that began with a WhatsApp job offer. Fraudsters initially gained his trust by transferring small sums before luring him into a Telegram group promising high returns on investments.

Hyderabad: A 75-year-old retired employee from Jubilee Hills has fallen victim to a major cyber fraud and allegedly ended up losing about Rs 96 lakh over the course of a year.
According to information available, the victim initially received a message on WhatsApp offering a part-time job. Upon contacting the number provided, the fraudsters promised payments for completing simple online tasks. After collecting his bank details, they assigned a few tasks and transferred Rs 9,500 to his account to gain his trust.
Subsequently, the victim was added to a Telegram group where he was lured into making investments with promises of higher returns. He initially invested Rs 39,800 and was shown a profit of Rs 6,000, which made him believe in the scheme.
Attracted by these initial gains, the victim continued investing larger amounts over time. The fraudsters eventually cheated him out of a total of Rs 96 lakh in multiple transactions over a year. Police are investigating the case.
