Hyderabad shivers as mercury drops further

Hyderabad: Parts of Hyderabad experienced intense winter chill as temperatures dipped to single digits on Saturday. The severe cold weather in the northern parts of the country is affecting various parts of Telangana including Hyderabad with night temperatures plummeting to single digits at various places.

The average minimum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 11.4 degrees Celsius, which is at least five degrees below normal. Rajendranagar witnessed the lowest minimum temperature of 9.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Serilingampally, which shivered at 9.6 degrees Celsius. Due to the cold-wave-like situation, the daytime temperature has also dipped by two to three degrees in the city.

According to the data recorded at various Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) by Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the night temperatures are likely to dip further in various areas, especially on the city outskirts. Localities including Hayathnagar, Secunderabad, Begumpet, Mehdipatnam and Saroornagar might record single-digit night temperatures on Sunday and Monday as well.

Several northern districts of Telangana are facing severe cold waves, with temperatures falling below five degrees Celsius on Saturday. Adilabad recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the State at 4.9 degrees Celsius. As per the forecast, the night temperatures in Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Medak, Nizamabad and Peddapalli is likely to dip by two to three degrees for the next two day.
