Hyderabad: In a departure from normal weather conditions, people in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana have continued to experience wintry conditions and dense morning fog during the second half of January.
While the Deccan plateau, which includes Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana, usually witness transition from winter to summer during this time of the year, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD), New Delhi, the retreat of the winter season has been significantly delayed.
On its part, the IMD-Hyderabad in its forecast has indicated ‘misty and foggy’ conditions are likely to continue for a few more days.
The IMD, New Delhi forecast has indicated that while north India faces its own ‘Cold Wave’, the Deccan plateau is caught in a ‘secondary chill’, as clear skies are facilitating heat loss from the ground.
While there is a marginal rise in daytime temperatures, the IMD forecast has indicated that wintry and fog-heavy mornings are likely to stay in Telangana for another week before mercury starts rising considerably.
Some of the regions (including outskirts) that recorded minimum temperatures (in degree Celsius) in Hyderabad in the early hours of Sunday include Ibrahimpatnam (Rangareddy) (9.8), Moula Ali (10.2), Hyderabad Central University (Serinilingampally)( 10.2), Gachibowli (11.2), Rajendranagar 11.3) and Alwal (11.8 degree Celsius). The minimum temperatures in and around Hyderabad, by and large, hovered between 10 degree Celsius and 14 degree Celsius.
