Hyderabad: Thunders that could make anyone sit up with a jolt and blinding flashes of lightning accompanied rains that resumed in the city by late afternoon on Saturday.

The rains, which took a short break after last night’s heavy downpour, appeared to be initially concentrated in the eastern sides of the city, apart from some areas in Malkajgiri too, where the TSDPS recorded 23.8mm of rain by 4 pm. The rains are slowly spreading across the city.

The GHMC’S EV&DM wing director tweeted, saying there was moderate to heavy rainfall over LB Nagar zone, spreading to other areas of the city in about 30 minutes.

“Citizens are advised to stay indoors unless unavoidable. Dial 040-29555500 for DRF assistance,” he tweeted at 4.50 pm. Central parts of the city, however, are already reporting heavy rain and deafening thunder from 4.30 pm itself.

Independent weather observers on Twitter, some of whom had correctly predicted Friday’s heavy downpour, said the rains were focused till 5 pm over Amberpet, Saidabad, Uppal and Dilsukhnagar and slowly spreading across the city.
