Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has placed Sub-Inspector Pujari Thirupathi under suspension after a viral video showed his six-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter driving his car on a busy public road, allegedly endangering the lives of other road users.
The suspension order was issued on Monday. Thirupathi, who was already under Vacation Reserve (VR), was suspended for allowing a minor to drive and violating road safety regulations.
The incident occurred on the busy Gandhamguda-Bairagiguda road, where the child was seen behind the wheel of the vehicle. The video, which went viral on social media, sparked widespread criticism.
Following an inquiry, the police registered a case against the SI for committing a rash and negligent act that endangered human life. Relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act were also invoked for allowing a minor to drive a motor vehicle.
