Hyderabad: No new Omicron variant infections were reported on Thursday even as six international passengers who arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad tested positive for Covid-19 and their blood samples have been sent for full genome sequencing to ascertain their Omicron status.

So far, 38 international passengers who had arrived at RGIA tested positive for Omicron variant out of which 31 were from non at-risk countries, six from at-risk countries and one positive case was a close contact of a passenger who had tested positive for Omicron.


At present, genome sequencing results of a total of 10 samples, which also includes the six blood samples of Covid positive travellers that were collected on Thursday, are awaited.

A total of 648 international travellers had arrived at RGIA Shamshabad on Thursday out of which six tested positive for Covid-19 in the RT-PCR tests. Since December 1, when authorities started conducting RT-PCR tests of international arrivals at RGIA, a total of 10,029 passengers underwent RT-PCR tests and 70 tested positive for Covid.
