Hyderabad sports officer Dr Laxman wins rare global honour
Hyderabad’s Dr J Rama Laxman, a senior sports officer with TSWREIS, received the Orange World Record Certificate for “Best Sports Administrator” on National Sports Day. Known for nurturing young talent, he has mentored athletes to success at state, national and international levels
Hyderabad: Dr J Rama Laxman of Hyderabad, a distinguished Sports Officer and Physical Director with the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS), has been conferred with the Orange World Record Certificate for the “Best Sports Administrator” on the occasion of National Sports Day on Friday by the Malaysia-based Orange World Record.
Dr Laxman, who is currently working at the TSWRDC and PG College (Mahendra Hills) in the city, has over the years earned a reputation for being selfless and always supporting young sporting talent in need.
A quiet contributor to the success stories of many young athletes, including para athlete Jeevanjyothi Deepthi, he has carved a niche for himself, especially in the last seven years, by showing the way for underprivileged students who dared to dream and achieve big in sport.
“It is a great honour and I dedicate this award to the TSWREIS Sports Department. But for the support of the management over the years, I would not have achieved this,” Dr Laxman said in a chat with Telangana Today.
A highly qualified official with PhD, MPhil, MPEd and MSc degrees, he has combined academic excellence with professional expertise to transform the sports landscape, especially in the TSWREIS.
Dr Laxman, a native of Polisettypally village in erstwhile Mahaboobnagar (presently Nagarkurnool district), played a pivotal role in establishing 28 specialised sports academies across various disciplines, providing structured training and mentorship to thousands of students. He was personally involved in organising more than 300 competitions at different levels.
The fact that 34 of his students went on to represent India at the international level in different disciplines, winning two gold, three silver and two bronze medals, is a tribute to his efforts.
He has also mentored athletes who went on to win 279 gold, 130 silver and 747 bronze medals at the national level, and 1053 gold, 747 silver and 560 bronze medals at the state level.
Dr Laxman’s leadership was further evident in managing 25 NCC units, instilling discipline, leadership, and community service among students. His collaborations with SATS, TSOA and SGFI have helped improve sports infrastructure and training opportunities.
For his outstanding contribution to sports over the years, Dr Laxman has won many awards for his service, and his journey remains a true inspiration.
