Hyderabad: Srikakulam native held for murder of 17-year-old girl in Warasiguda
A 17 year-old girl, Pavitra, was allegedly murdered by Dukka Uma Shanker, known to her family, after an argument at her home in Warasiguda. Police said he stabbed her during a dispute over her visit to Vijayawada. He has been arrested.

Hyderabad: The Warasiguda police arrested a man who had allegedly murdered a 17 year-old girl following an argument with her on Monday afternoon.
The man, Dukka Uma Shanker (24), a resident of Yousufguda and a native of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, was known to the victim’s family.
According to the police, the girl’s family is related to Uma Shanker.
A year ago, Uma Shanker had come to the house of the girl and met her parents Jagada Laxmi and Kantharao, and proposed to marry their daughter Pavitra. The parents of the girl agreed and said they would perform the marriage on a suitable date after discussing with the elders.
On December 6, Pavitra along with her parents and sister went to Vijayawada and returned to the city the next night.
“On Monday afternoon, Uma Shanker came to the house of Laxmi and picked up a quarrel with them, asking why they did not seek his permission before taking Pavitra to Vijayawada. An argument ensued between Pavitra and Uma Shanker during which the latter took out a knife and stabbed the girl. She suffered severe bleeding injuries and died on the spot,” said DCP (east), B Bala Swamy.
The police registered a case following the murder and arrested Uma Shanker.
