Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based startup TakeMe2Space on Thursday announced that its indigenous satellite battery pack, PowerBank-50, which keeps satellites alive while they pass through Earth’s dark shadow, has officially succeeded in space.
The compact battery, weighing just 380 grams, flew 450 km into orbit aboard Skyroot Aerospace’s historic Vikram-1 rocket, the country’s first private orbital launch. During the mission, it powered an experimental payload for space company Cosmoserve Space, flawlessly handling violent launch shaking, cosmic radiation, and freezing temperature drops, a statement from the company said.
Satellites rely entirely on batteries to function whenever they pass through Earth’s dark shadow. Until now, Indian space companies had to import these expensive, specialized power packs from abroad, often waiting months for delivery. However, this has changed with the testing of the indigenously developed PowerBank-50 by the city-based company.
