Hyderabad sub-junior basketball: Secunderabad Stallions score record 105 points to reach final

Hyderabad: Secunderabad Stallions boys created a record of sorts in this League by becoming the only team scoring more than 100 points in a single game when it recorded a 105-72 win against Golconda Gladiators after being placed tantalizingly close 40 – 37 at half time in the Hyderabad District sub-junior basketball championship for boys and girls at YMCA Secunderabad here on Sunday.

The result helped Stallions maintain a clean slate and enter the final.

Itihaas and Manideep scored for Golconda Gladiators, whereas Karthik and Rishik dominated for Secunderabad Stallions as they led 24 – 19 at end of first quarter.

In the second quarter Kenny, Manvith and Vasist combined well to continue the scoring spree of Secunderabad Stallions, however Ansh and Moksha played in tandem for Golconda Gladiators to reduce the deficit to just three points as Seunderabad Stallions led 40 – 37 at halftime.

After a change of ends Itihaas and Ansh continued to find the net for Golconda Gladiators. Howeve,r it was Karthik and Kenny show as they cumulative scored 25 of the 29 points scored by Secunderabad Stallions. Karthik was playing at a different level as he scored three 3-pointers in the third quarter alone to take a decisive 69 – 54 lead at end of third quarter.

In the last quarter too Karthik displayed quality offense with as many as FOUR 3-pointers for a match haul of 48 points alone and along with Vasist & Kenny chipping in at regular intervals scored a massive 36 points to close out the match 105 – 72.

In another late evening match Golconda Gladiators boys got the better of Charminar Chargers 57 – 46 to qualify for the Semi-Finals.
