Hyderabad: Hyderabad suffered their second loss in the Vijay Hazare Trophy one day tournament when they went down by 12 runs against Gujarat in the Group A fourth round match in Surat on Friday.

After restricting Gujarat to a modest 222/9 in 50 overs, Hyderabad were all out for 210 runs in 48 overs. Inviting the opposition to bat after winning the toss, Hyderabad’s T Ravi Teja scalped four wickets while CV Milind took two wickets to restrict Gujarat to a low total.

At one point, Gujarat slipped to 70/4 in 10 overs. But Het Patel hit 67 (81 balls; 8×4, 1×6) and Karan Patel scored 78 (85 balls, 5×4, 3×6) to revive the innings.

Chasing a modest total, Hyderabad lost talented left hander Thakur Tilak Varma for a duck in the second over and Himalay Agarwal in the ninth over. But captain Tanmay Agarwal hit a half-century (54 in 76; 6×4) and revived the innings with Prateek Reddy (38 in 49; 4×4, 1×6).

After Prateek and Tanmay’s dismissals, Bavanaka Sandeep held the forte with a 42-ball 54 but he ran out of partners. He departed in the 39th over with 27 runs required from 11 overs.

However, Hyderabad lower order batsman failed to stay at the crease.
