Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force nabbed two persons allegedly involved in the robbery at an ATM centre in Koti at the end of last month. The police seized a country-made pistol along with 35 live rounds from them. Five other suspects in the case are absconding.

The apprehended persons are identified as Furkhan Ahmed (36), a resident of Sharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohd Taiyyab Tyagi (30), a resident of Balapur and native of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, on January 31, three persons—Abid, Furkhan Ahmed, and Faheem Ahmed, who are natives of Uttar Pradesh—came to the city to commit a robbery after Taiyyab, a taxi driver, informed them about the possibility of robbing people at ATM centres in Hyderabad.

“Taiyyab, who has been staying in the city for two years, noticed people depositing huge cash at the SBI ATM centre in the early mornings. He informed his uncle Naushad and cousin Danish, who then planned the offence and sent Abid, Furkhan, and Faheem to the city,” said Task Force DCP Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath.

On January 31, Taiyyab and Abid went to Nampally railway station to keep watch and monitor the arrival of potential victims, while Furkhan and Faheem waited near the SBI ATM at Koti with a country-made weapon for a target person.

“Abdul Rinshad, a businessman from Kerala, arrived at the ATM to deposit cash. On noticing him, Furkhan and Faheem went inside the ATM centre and tried to snatch the cash bag. When the victim resisted, Furkhan fired one round on the floor and the second on the leg of the victim, snatched away the cash bag, and escaped on a two-wheeler,” he said.

Afterwards, the gang escaped in an auto rickshaw to Shaheennagar, where they counted the cash at the house of one Mohd Mautlab and then dispersed. Six special teams were formed, and they managed to nab two persons at Shaheennagar. Efforts are on to nab Danish, Naushad, Abid, Mautlab, and Faheem, who are absconding.
