Hyderabad Techie duped of Rs 1.4 lakh in online fraud
According to the police, the techie, who works for a US-based software firm, recently received a message on WhatsApp from an unknown number, which had his friend’s display picture.
Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters impersonated a person and siphoned off Rs 1.4 lakh from a software engineer in the city under the guise of a medical emergency.
According to the police, the techie, who works for a US-based software firm, recently received a message on WhatsApp from an unknown number, which had his friend’s display picture.
Believing it to be his friend’s new number, he started chatting. During the chat, the suspect claiming to have a medical emergency, requested Rs 1.5 lakh. The unsuspecting victim transferred Rs 1.4 lakh online. He realised he was cheated only after calling his friend.
Based on a complaint, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have booked a case and are investigating.
