Hyderabad: A techie was held on charges of selling Remdesivir injections in the black market here on Friday. The Hyderabad Task Force nabbed the suspect, Akula Mehul Kumar, 26, from Pan Bazaar in Secunderabad and seized four Remdesivir vials, a bike and a mobile phone from him.
According to the police, Mehul Kumar, who works for a reputed software firm in the city, saw the demand for Remdesivir while sitting in the medical shop run by his father. He then decided to illegally procure the vials at low rates from dealers and sell them at higher rates.
“He bought each vial for about Rs 4,000 and sold at nearly Rs 35,000, without any valid documents,” an official said, adding that based on a tip-off, the Task Force caught him while selling the injection vials to a customer. Mehul Kumar, along with the seized vials, was handed over to the Mahankali police for further action.
