Hyderabad teen dies by suicide; family alleges harassment and assault
A 19-year-old Intermediate student died by suicide in Hyderabad’s Chilakalguda area. Her family has alleged harassment and assault by a youth, pointing to injury marks on her body, while police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation.
Hyderabad: A 19-year-old intermediate student died by suicide under suspicious circumstances in the Chilakalguda Police Station limits on Wednesday, with allegations of harassment and assault emerging after her death.
The victim, identified as Jenima, was found hanging at her residence. According to her mother, Rama Devi, a youth named Jagadeesh had been allegedly harassing her daughter for some time.
She further alleged that the suspect had recently forcibly entered their house and attacked Jenima when she was alone, leaving her frightened and distressed.
Family members claim that unable to cope with the fear and trauma, the young woman took the extreme step. They also pointed to injury marks on her body, raising suspicion over the circumstances leading to her death.
Jenima allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan in the house and was immediately shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
The grieving family has demanded strict action against the suspect, alleging that sustained harassment and the alleged assault drove the victim to suicide.
The Chilakalguda Police have registered a case and are investigating all angles, including the allegations made by the family and the presence of injuries on the victim’s body.
Officials said further details will be known during course of investigation.
