Hyderabad: A 19-year-old student died while three of his friends were injured critically after the car they were traveling in went out of control and turned over at Maktha village in Ghatkesar on the city outskirts in the early hours of Thursday.
The victim was identified as S Akhil from Maktha village, while the injured were Mohd Shafi (20) and B Suresh (19) from Korremula village, and K Vishal (15) from Maktha village. All of them were students and close friends.
The incident occurred around 12:10 am when the youngsters were proceeding towards Korremula from Prathapasingaram cross-roads in a Toyota Innova driven by Shafi. According to the police, when the car reached near Aai Mata temple in Maktha, a stray dog suddenly jumped on to the road from the nearby bushes, following which Shafi, in an attempt to avoid hitting the canine, lost control of the steering wheel.
“The car went out of control and off the main road into the open plot on the roadside. With the same speed, it turned over before stopping,” police said, adding that Akhil, who was seated in the front, died on the spot. Shafi, Suresh and Vishal suffered critical injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they were under observation.
The Ghatkesar police booked a case of negligence causing death and injuries and are investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the mishap.
