Hyderabad: Prolonged power supply disruptions in several areas of Hyderabad city have resulted in disruption of mobile phone services and internet connectivity in many areas of Hyderabad.

Disruptions in power supply, if any, were confined only to maintenance works and that too consumers are issued advisories about the specific timings of power disruptions well in advance.

However, the unprecedented rains that Hyderabad received in the last two days led to a peculiar situation of residents feelign the pinch of no-power-supply situations. In many trees getting uprooted and fell on power lines, while in a majority areas, authorities disconnected power supply anticipating inundations and tree falls.

“At least 40 per cent of the mobile towers are not functioning as the back-up power supply sytems have stopped functioning, as power disruptions extended for more than 12 hours”, an officials of a telecom company told Telangana Today. Unwilling to be named, the official said the telecom companies were waiting for the power supply to be restored. Transco officials said the field staff have been working round the clock and power was being restored gradually. “Hopefully, by tonight we should be able to restore if everything go well”, the official maintained.

Meanwhile, a Reliance Jio representative said they had begun moving mobile power generators to the mobile tower sites in a bid to restart mobile phone and internet services.

“In the wake of torrential rains, Airtel has set up dedicated war rooms to monitor networks 24×7 and put in place rapid response teams for any potential restoration requirement. Provisions have also been made for quick deployment of temporary sites (cell on wheels) in case of damage to existing sites.
