Hyderabad: Three persons were arrested by the Adibatla police in connection with the collapse of an iron truss at a Dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College in Nadargul on October 17, which claimed the life of a girl student and left 22 others injured.
The arrested were identified as Mallela Saketh, (22) an event organiser, and Bathula Puneeth (21) and Sayam Nishanth Yadav, (24) associated with PS-Lightings and Sounds.
The accident occurred when a temporary iron truss erected beside the stage collapsed on students dancing during the Dussehra celebrations. Student Narayanadas Sona Chilikti died in the incident.
According to the police, Saketh, who operated under the name Kriyaa Operations, had taken responsibility for the event arrangements, including the stage, truss, sound system, generator and lighting. The work was subsequently subcontracted to other event organisers and lighting contractors.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the truss was erected on only two pillars instead of four and that adequate safety precautions were not followed.
The police seized mobile phones, agreement documents and records of financial transactions from the three. A 19-metre-long truss and an unauthorised DJ sound system were also seized from the scene.
Three event-related persons, including Tanush and Mahesh, and two college coordinators are absconding. The investigation is continuing, with the police awaiting technical reports from the Roads and Buildings and Fire departments to establish responsibility for the mishap.
